Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia, is named after Queen Victoria and is one of the oldest cities in the Pacific Northwest, with British settlement dating back to 1843. Two iconic landmarks include the British Columbia Parliament Buildings, completed in 1897, and the elegant Fairmont Empress, which first opened its doors in 1908. Victoria is also home to the second-oldest Chinatown in North America—second only to San Francisco. Throughout the city, its British roots and colonial heritage are easy to spot in the gardens, museums, public squares, historic place names, and classic English-style pubs that give Victoria its distinctive character. If you’re arriving by cruise ship, you’ll dock at the Ogden Point Cruise Terminal, located in Victoria’s Outer Harbour area just over a mile from the Inner Harbour and downtown district.
